COACH DAVID PENNY

Varsity Coach

David Penny is a graduate of North Cobb HS. Coach Penny attended Auburn University majoring in Industrial Design. Since graduating, he has earned his teaching certificate, master’s degree, specialist degree, and is currently working on his doctorate in instructional technology. This is Coach Penny’s 18th year teaching and coaching and 7th year working at Lassiter High School. Prior to Lassiter, Coach Penny worked at Kell HS for 11 years. He holds a NSCAA Premier Diploma and USSF D License and has coached club soccer at SSA, NASA and Concorde Fire. Coach Penny and his wife, Joanna, have two children, Jet (14) and Jovi (8) and Trusty the cavapoo.

COACH SAM HUNT

Varsity Associate Head Coach

Sam Hunt is a graduate of South Gwinnett High School and the University of Georgia, where he played club soccer, and recently earned his specialist degree from West GA Univ. This is Coach Hunt’s seventh year at Lassiter, after spending the previous four years as the varsity boys coach at Woodstock High School, and seven years as the varsity girls coach at Kell High School. In 2011, Coach Hunt was named the Divarsity Coach of the Year, and in 2017, was named the Cherokee County High School Coach of the Year. He has a USSF “D” License and multiple other certificates in special topics courses. He has coached club level at Kennesaw FC, and NASA and currently coaches at Concorde Fire. Coach Hunt and his wife, Kristin, have two soccer-loving sons, Davin (11) and Holden (9), and Evee the red lab.
